Summer learning journey

Today for the summer learning journey day 2 week 2 activity 3 "I Have a Dream"

What did Rosa face that day on the bus?

That day on the bus the bus driver was being racist and telling her that she has to move so a white person could have her seat. Rosa Parks said "NAH" and refused to give her seat to them. Then she was arrested and charged with  "Refusing to obey orders of a bus driver" after that black people refused to go on buses for many months. In November 1956 the supreme court ruled that segregation on public buses was against the law so that meant that black people could sit in any seat they wanted.

Q How many years until I'm 25 years old?

A 16

25-9=16

To work this out I just went 25 minus my age 9 which equals 16, so in 16 years I will be 25.

Summer learning journey

Today for the summer learning journey day 1 week 2 activity 3 "Dear Jacinda".

Dear Jacinda,

I'm writing to you because I think that we should do and extra hour and a half every day at school.  So we only have to go to school  4 days a week Monday-Thursday because some of us have a lot of sports on in the weekend, so on Friday we can have a relaxing day before we do our sports. I think a lot of kids would prefer this way because it is a three day weekend and that would be awesome.

Summer learning journey

Today for the Summer learning journey I'm doing day 5 activity 1 against the odds. her are somethings that are important to me.

1: My bike is really important to me because it saves me walking.

2: My little brother Wilbur is really important because he's funny and cool!!

3: My Chromebook is really important because without it I wouldn't be able to do the summer learning journey.

Summer learning journey

Today for the Summer learning journey I'm doing activity 2 swimming to safety.

Yusra was a member of the first-ever refugee Olympic team in Rio in 2016 for swimming. A year before this she fled the Syrian war she left Greece in an overcrowded boat. In the middle of the sea, the boat's engine failed so Yusra jumped into the sea and swam for 3 and a half hours in open water to stop the boat capsizing. Because of this, it saved the lives of 20 people. She has received lots of rewards. Next year she is going to be in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and I want to watch one of her swimming races.

I hope you enjoyed. By Harrison

Summer learning journey

Today for the Summer learning journey it is the last day of week 1 so we got to choose a sports/explorer person that you think changed your life the person that I'm doing is josh coppins, I'm doing him because he was the one that inspired me to do Motocross.

Josh Coppins is a professional motocross rider from New Zealand. He is 42 years of age. He competed in the motocross world championships from 1993-2012 which is a long time and in 2002 he ranked second in the world for F.I.M 250cc motocross world championship.

Day 4: Individual pursuits

I watched the video on Venus Williams here are three things I learned on the video

1: By the age of ten she was able to hit the ball 100mph.

2: Venus won Wimbledon, the U.S Open and a gold medal in the Olympics in the year 2000.

3: She bet her sister in 2008 Wimbledon.

And one thing that I would still like to know is if she is still playing professional tennis.

Summer learning journey

Today for the Summer learning journey I'm doing activity 3 achieving our dreams. My dream job is to be a professional rugby player, I only want to be a professional rugby player because my mum's grandad played for all blacks in 1955-1958. My mum's grandad could help me achieve this dream by giving me tips on how to tackle and how to do really quick plays.

This is an image of him this image is from the west coast recollect.

Summer learning journey

Today for the Summer learning journey I'm doing defying the odds this activity is about basketball players, the players that it said are LeBron James or Steven Adams the person that I'm going to pretend I'm interviewing is Steven Adams because he comes from Rotorua, New Zealand.

He plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder, he is 26 years old and his birthday is on the 20th of July 1993. If I was interviewing him the three questions that I would ask are.

1:  What his best shot is? for example (a three, a layup or a dunk)

2: What is the hardest team you have played?

3: Did you ever think you would be a professional basketball player for a career when you were a little boy?

Summer learning journey activity 3

Today for the summer learning journey it is about what a certain charity is.

The charity that I'm going to write about is Ronald Mcdonald House south island, I have visited Ronald Mcdonald house to see one of my friends that is staying there while he is having his treatment in Christchurch hospital.

Ronald Mcdonald house is where children and their families can stay for free when they need health care in Christchurch. They also provide food for people that are staying there and help make it a little bit easier on them. There is also a lot of fun stuff to do there like outside there is a trampoline, a basketball hoop, a playground and heaps of bikes and inside there is the lounge, the teenage room, and a computer room.

It is a really good charity to donate to if you can.

Summer learning journey week 1

This week for the summer learning journey we are pretending that we are on a boat for three weeks and you have to bring 10 food items but they have to be something that doesn't go in a fridge or freezer.

1. I would have fruit like pineapple pears apple and strawberries: etc

2. I would bring a lot of water because we are on the boat for three weeks and you are meant to have 8 cups of water a day and if you don't have water you would die.

3. I would bring lots of protein bars so I have heaps of energy.

4. I would bring lots of chips so I don't get hungry and so I have something yummy to eat.

5. I would bring lots of nuts and peanuts because there healthy.

6. I would also bring oats because they are everyday food.

7. I would bring some cake so I have something yum to eat on the boat.

8. I would also bring some more fruit so we can eat healthily and make fruit kebabs.

9. I would definitely bring a sandwich so I'm really healthy.

10. the last thing I would bring is cookies because they are really yum.

Lorde

Today in Ngahere we did a summer learning journey post from the teaser week today we did a famous new Zealand singer Lorde.

The most challenging part was finding pictures labeled for reuse because some were bad quality.

The easiest part for me was writing her whole name because it was really long and to spell it because it was really hard to remember.

Next time I think I should write more information. the only reason I couldn't write more information is because we ran out of time.

Choose your own adventure story planner

This week and last week in Ngahere we did our choose your own adventure story planner. The most challenging part for me was linking the slides together. the easiest part for me was writing the story and making it make sense. By Harrison

Puha making

This week in Ngahere we made puha for our Christmas float. We tried to copy Dick Frizzell's art above is a picture of Quaid's, Jari's and mine. The most challenging part for me was cutting it out with a craft knife because I've only ever used a craft knife once or twice at home but not for art so it was very challenging. we made eight puha and next week we are starting to make seven eels because that's the other thing that my class is making. For our song for our float, it is the song called a pukeko in a ponga tree. The easiest part for me was drawing the puha and painting the puha because I've done drawing and painting a lot before at home and school. By Harrison

WALT summarise

WALT summarise. Today in reading kauri we summarised the book or story called  THE FORCE.

Dick Frizzell art

Today in Ngahere we did Dick Frizzell art above is my copy of the 4 square man. WALT use Dick Frizzell's art because our school's Christmas parade float is a pukeko in a ponga tree. I enjoyed doing this because I like doing art I used pastels on the face and t-shirt and my background is dye some people used paint to do there's. I found it challenging to colour inside the lines because the pastels were very thick and that made it ten times harder. By Harrison

Thursday, 21 November 2019

Number of the week

Adventure story brain storming

Today in Ngahere we are checking what makes a great adventure story because we are going to make our own adventure stories. I enjoyed writing lots of ideas it was really good because we were in a group so it wasn't just your ideas. The bit that was challenging for me was to think of ideas that somebody in your group hasn't or already written. By Harrison

He aha tenei

WALT ask what is this? in te reo Maori. Today we had to find the Maori word for an object and put it in a sentence. We had to describe it. I enjoyed doing this because we had to think of something and write it in Maori and English. It was tricky to think of an object to do.

Summarising

WALT summarise
so what we did was we all wrote 8 things about ourselves then we stood behind our desk and miss farr called out a number like six and you would write on thing on the person's Chromebook that we went to.
It was challenging because you had to think about that person and you had to read what they wrote and then you had to think of something to add. I enjoyed it because you had to think about yourself. By Harrison

WALT write poems with Onomatopoeia

Water drips from the tap,

water flowing fast everywhere.

Today Ngahere were practicing onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia is the use of a word that sounds like what they are describing we all had to make our own poem above is my poem.

The great pacific garbage patch

The great pacific garbage patch

The great pacific garbage patch (GPGP) is between Hawaii and mainland Colifornia the gpgp has been around since the 1950s but it was found in 1993. It’s 3x the size of France.

Each person in the world has probably put 250 pieces of debris in the Gpgp right now!. We only know were 1% of the waste is in the ocean. We don’t know how long plastic will last in the ocean.

About 70% of the ocean litter is plastic. They found a plastic crate from about 1977 imagine how long thats been in there for. That's longer than I’ve been alive. It would weigh up to 80,000 tones thats really heavy.  Today we did research on the great pacific garbage patch.
